Continuous flow worm composting

At first thought, one might expect a commercial composting facility to just be a larger version of a home compost pile. However, that's definitely not the case. There are a number of additional factors that need to be taken into consideration in the operation of a commercial composting enterprise.

So, what's the biggest difference and what should I know?

Let's start by looking at the worm bin. Without a doubt the most progressive way of working with worms is continuous worm composting. The principle behind it is the feedstock is fed from the top and harvested from below the bottom. This can take place every day, as the worms always stay in the top 6 to 12 inches of the bin. So feeding worms are not disturbed by the harvesting method. The continuous system can work on both a horizontal and a vertical basis. An extremely successful example can be seen where a raised heap is automatically fed from above and the ready worm biohumus removed from underneath. These particular systems are already in use in the U.S. These systems can process up to 1000 tons of waste material per year.

We offer for sale a modular test system, which is a smaller version of a commercial continuous system that will help you evaluate your feedstocks and to see if you're really cut out for worm farming before you take a huge financial plunge. Our test unit can also be used to start a small backyard business.
